This page lists everything you should need to know about
the weekend about what you should and shouldn’t do. Generally, a good dose of
common sense should see you through…
Above all else, this is a family event, so keep your speed down!
There are two main areas for camping, numbers will dictate
whether we use one or both of them. Both areas are grassed but have a stony /
sandy make up – good for drainage but not so good for tent pages (thick
plastic ones work best). There is plenty of space and we can usually accommodate
competitive vehicles and trailers next to camping units – heavy lorries are
advised to stay in the car park.
There is no power available for camping, so you need to be self-sufficient. I know some people like to use generators – please be considerate to others, especially those under canvass. Barbeques are welcomed (we are just being very optimistic about the weather now), but please have a fire bucket nearby. We don’t want any open fires on site. Water and elasan disposal is available on the campsite with easy access. There are also toilets provided for those that choose to use them.
There will be a selection of fire extinguishers clearly
visible around the campsite, but you are encouraged to bring your own fire
bucket or extinguishers. Waste bins are all around the camping area, and
they will be emptied regularly through out the weekend. Unless we are
inundated with people camping, the pitches won’t be marked out, so follow the
directions of the marshals on site.
The site gates are closed overnight, normally around 11.00ish. It is possible to get in after then, but we ask that you park in the car park. On the day let one of the officials know if you expect to arrive late, or return late after a night out.
A marquee will be set up from Thursday to Monday. On Saturday and Sunday evenings, a second marquee with a licensed bar will also be set up. Prices will be normal pub prices, not extortionate event catering prices.
Of course, these are more than welcome. Children and dogs are a part of the club and it wouldn’t be the same without them. Please keep them under control and under supervision in the competitive areas.
We ask that children of all ages wear a hi-vis vest when in the competitive areas (we have some you can borrow) so that marshals and competitors can see them when they wander off.
There is a children’s play ground, but it is unsupervised. There is also an assault course that is a Wildtracks facility, which is out of bounds to us.
These are generally in sight of the camping area, and are
but a short stroll away. Signed on vehicles only are allowed in this area. Lunch
deliveries, missions of mercy and spectators do not fall into that category
(unless bringing my lunch)
On most days there will be several events running, and setting out for the next day’s events. Be aware at all times of the many vehicle movements, but feel free to go and watch the events whenever you like. Prohibited areas will be clearly identified.
Near the entrance to the camp site, the main administration
area will be obvious, come here to book in for the camping, to sign on for
events, to find outs what’s going on, or just for a chat (cups of tea very
welcome).
Signing on – will be in the administration tent/awning near the gate.
Scrutineering – will be to one side of the main campsite entrance, a very short walk from where you sign on.
Vehicle assembly for events will be at the campsite exit, clearly marked. All driver briefings will be done in front of the signing on area.
Toilets are available on site, next to the campsite, and
near the main competitive area.
Catering facilities are available on site during the day,
but home cooked food is often nicer…
Quads – if there is enough interest, quad bikes of the
like could be made available after the main events have finished for a small
fee. Let me know by clicking here
if you are interested.
There are a number of jet washes available on site that will be available – they use pound coins at a reasonable rate, but at least the motor’s clean to take home.
We have exclusive use of Wildtracks off road areas throughout the weekend, but Wildtracks also has a large dirt bike track that will be in use on Saturday and Sunday. This means that the bikers will have use of the main car park area at these times.
Wildtracks themselves will also be on site, and may be using their workshops – these are generally out of bounds.
We hope that you won’t need to do much of this through the weekend, but in case you do, put a ground sheet down to catch anything, clear up afterwards and don’t make too much noise in the evenings, and none after 11.00pm.
A manned first aid post will be on site and available Thursday evening to Monday evening. During the comp safari, the 1st aid post will be located adjacent to the course start & finish. At other times it will be located on the campsite near the administration area.
Directions to local facilities will be available at signing on.
There are, fairly obviously, a number of good pubs, cafes and supermarkets all quite close to Wildtracks, and there are a few petrol stations reasonably close by as well. Details and directions to these will be provided when you arrive.
